On Sunday, 25th June, Bishop Ian will ordain Ian Boa as a deacon.
All are welcome at the service as we support Ian at this pivotal moment.
What is the Diaconate?
The Diaconate is one of the three orders in the Scottish Episcopal Church (along with many other mainstream Churches):
- Diaconate (deacons)
- Presbyterate (priests)
- Episcopate (bishops)
What do deacons do?
Deacons:
- serve in the liturgy by reading the Gospel and assisting at the altar
- they can baptise and conduct weddings and funerals
- can be "vocational" (or permanent, as Rebekah is)
or "transitional" (the deacon prepares to be ordained priest at a later date).
