Ora et labora et lege
Pray, work and read.

The Rule of St Benedict (written early in the 6th century AD) is a rule for monks and nuns, governing many different aspects of community life.

It influenced Western monasticism more than any other text, and it still is in wide use in many monasteries of the Benedictine family.

It is where the Benedictine motto Ora et labora et lege (pray, work and read) has its origin.
