Preparation

Organ Prelude

Georg Böhm: Minuet in G major

Opening

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Collect for Purity

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known,
and from whom no secrets are hidden:
cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name;
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Confession and Absolution

God is love and we are God’s children. There is no room for fear in love.
We love because God loved us first. Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith.

Silence

God our Father, we confess to you
and to our fellow members in the Body of Christ
that we have sinned in thought, word and deed,
and in what we have failed to do. We are truly sorry.
Forgive us our sins,
and deliver us from the power of evil.
For the sake of your Son who died for us,
Jesus Christ, our Lord.

God, who is both power and love,
forgive us and free us from our sins,
heal and strengthen us by the Holy Spirit
and raise us to new life in Christ our Lord. Amen.

Gloria reflection

Collect

O Lord, let the world be ordered in peace,
according to your will:
that your people may be free to worship you with joy;
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, world without end. Amen.

Sermon
The Revd Canon Val Nellist

Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one substance with the Father.
Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven;
by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and was made human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father.
With the Father and the Son, he is worshipped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.  Amen.

The Peace

We meet in Christ’s name.
Let us share his peace.

The Liturgy of the Sacrament

Offertory Prayer

Let us present our offerings to the Lord.
Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power,
the glory, the splendour and the majesty;
for everything in heaven and on earth is yours.
All things come from you, and of your own we give you.

Eucharistic Prayer

The Breaking of the Bread

The living bread is broken for the life of the world.
Lord, unite us in this sign.

The Lord’s Prayer

Please join in the prayer Jesus himself taught us:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Do not bring us to the time of trial
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever.
Amen.

Thanksgiving and Sending Out

Post-Communion Prayer

Father of all, we give you thanks and praise
that when we were still far off
you met us in your Son and brought us home.
Dying and living, he declared your love,
gave us grace, and opened the gate of glory.
May we who share Christ’s body live his risen life;
we who drink his cup bring life to others;
we whom the Spirit lights, give light to the world.
Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us,
so we and all your children shall be free,
and the whole earth live to praise your name;
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Blessing

The Dismissal

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord, alleluia, alleluia.
In the name of Christ, alleluia, alleluia.

Conservation Repair Work

The work by Cornerstone Traditional Masonry Ltd is nearly finished. The mobile access platform is being used for work from the west access to reach the west gable and high roof level on the south side. Car parking on the way into the hall may be closed to make this possible. Please don’t hinder the work by parking nearby in the grounds at those times. It may also not be possible to obtain vehicle access around the church at these times. The lower aisle level eaves will be accessed from a scaffold tower, sited on the grass and moved as necessary. Painting of the main door has also been included with the works. Once these are complete, there will be tidying up, including removing all the rubbish and installing the new cover for the manhole around the back of the church at the corner of the hall. (It has a yellow temporary cover with limited load bearing capacity, sufficient for a car, but care should be taken if driving around there.) Finally, the site cabin will be removed.

Hall Floor

The replacement of the HT hall floor is due to start on Monday the 14th July. There will be vehicles connected with the work parking by the hall entrance during working hours.

Iona Retreat

The Revd Canon Nerys Brown has sent the following invitation:

An opportunity has arisen to go on retreat to Iona during from 6th to 13th June next year, staying at Bishop’s House. There has been a very good response, but there are still a few spaces. I need to confirm as soon as possible to secure accommodation.

Here are the details for anyone who might be interested. We would travel together on Saturday 6th June – sharing cars unless you prefer to go by public transport. We would stay until Saturday 13th June.
Bishop’s House is the Scottish Episcopal Retreat Centre on Iona. It has space for 23 people – 8 twin and 7 single rooms, with facilities for disabled people down stairs. If there are enough of us, we could have sole occupancy of the house. All meals will be provided and many dietary requirements can be met.
There is a daily Eucharist at 8 a.m. and Compline at 8 p.m. We would also have the option to join in with worship at Iona Abbey which is at 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. and would be able to visit the Abbey for free at any time.

We would have our own programme of events, including a pilgrimage/nature walk, times of reflection together and plenty of space to explore and go for walks. The house has a mobility scooter which can be borrowed. There would also be an opportunity to take a boat trip to Staffa to visit Fingal’s Cave and see its seabirds and seals (not included in cost).

Cost of accommodation is £715. A deposit of around £100 per person will need to be paid as soon as we’ve confirmed. Further instalments will probably need to be paid in 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and on arrival. (This arrangement is yet to be finalised.) My hope is that we can share cars. These can be safely left at Fionnphort on Mull. The ferry from Oban to Craignure (Isle of Mull) currently costs  £35.20 return for a car. The ferry from Fionnphort on Mull to Iona costs  £8-£10 for a car.

In order to secure accommodation, I need to hear from you as soon as possible.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me on rector@stmarysdunblane.org if you have any questions.

Thank you,
Nerys

HT Prayer Tree

The Prayer Tree at the back of church is an aid to prayer. Take a label and write your prayer/message on it and hang it on the tree.

Please add the current date. The label will be removed one month after this date, but if you would like to leave the label on the tree, please just alter the date or write another label.

See Libby Coats if you have questions.
